Host an International Trainee through MAST International

MAST International is an international agricultural exchange program at the University of Minnesota providing practical and academic training in American agricultural and horticultural production.  The program mission is to improve global understanding by providing educational and cultural enrichment through international exchange.

Who are the trainees?

MAST International trainees typically:

  • have 2 years of apprenticeship or experience in their chosen field
  • have 2 years of college or have studied at an agricultural technical school
  • are between the ages of 19 – 29
  • have a conversational level of English


Why host an international trainee?

MAST International host trainers appreciate:

  • the benefits of having an intern contribute to their operation for 4 to 12 months
  • the cultural exchange an international trainee brings to their workplace and family
  • the overseas contact that can be made through their international trainee

 

What does a host trainer do?

MAST International asks host trainers to:

  • provide quality training that meets the learning objectives of the participant
  • find affordable housing for the trainee(s) before arrival
  • provide a fair compensation for a minimum of 40 hours per week
  • provide cultural opportunities for the trainee to improve language skills and meet new people
  • have Worker’s Compensation insurance (if required by law)
  • pay a placement fee of $100 plus a monthly administrative fee of $75.00 during the placement period

 

What does MAST International do?

MAST has an experienced staff that:

  • collaborates with hosts and overseas partners in the selection of applicants
  • provides trainees with visa documents, pre-arrival information, and an comprehensive orientation at the University of Minnesota
  • provides support and assistance to trainee and host during training program
