Practical Experience Options

MAST International provides educational experiences following the U.S. Department of State regulations for educational and cultural exchanges.  There are two broad categories for these types of programs – Trainee and Intern.  The following information will help you decide which program is best for you.

 

TRAINEE

INTERN

A Trainee is a person wishing to gain additional practice in her/his occupational field based on previous studies or work experience.

A Training Program consists of up to 12 months practical training and up to 6 months of classroom participation and study for possible total of 18 months in the USA.

 

An Intern is a person wanting a work-based learning program that reinforces her/his current or recent academic studies.

 

An Internship consists of up to 12 months work-based learning and may include an optional study program.

Eligibility:

  • Single
  • 21 to 32 years of age
  • Eligible to participate in a second training program after 2 years living outside the USA.  Second program must develop more advanced skills or skills in a different field of expertise.

Eligibility:

  • Single
  • 18 to 25 years of age
  • Eligible to participate in more than one internship; however must meet intern qualifications.  Second program must develop more advanced skills or skills in a different field of expertise.

Required Qualifications:

5 years practical, hands-on experience in agriculture or a related field

OR

A degree or professional certificate from a post-secondary academic institution, and at least 1 year work experience in agriculture or a related field

 

 

Required Qualifications:

At least 1 year related work experience in agriculture or a related field, and currently enrolled and pursuing studies at a post-secondary institution

OR

At least 1 year related work experience in agriculture or a related field, and a recent graduate (within 12 months of program start date) of a post-secondary institution

Length of Program:

Practical Training: 3 to 12 months

Study Program: 1 semester (16 weeks)

Note:  Program may not exceed 18 months total

Length of Program:

Internship: 3 to 12 months

Study Program: 1 semester (16 weeks)

Note:  Program may not exceed 12 months total

 

For a successful program, it is very important for applicants to understand the program information before applying to MAST International.  It is also important that participants are open to new experiences, able to adapt to changing environments, and are committed to learning about a new culture.
