MAST International Partners

To better serve trainees, MAST International works with representatives throughout the world.  MAST International Partners help explain the program, evaluate prospective applicants, and assist applying for entry visas.  They may also provide pre-departure orientations and assistance with travel.

Program Length

Trainees are limited to a maximum of 18 months participation on the MAST International program.  Trainees are not guaranteed the entire 18-month program.  Since the length of program is based on Individual Training Plans, placements vary from 4 to 12 months during the First Practical Training Program.

Extensions

Extensions are only available for trainees that successfully complete the First Practical Training Program and a Study Program, and may not exceed 18 months.  For those who complete a Short Course Program, extensions are limited to a maximum of 6 additional months.  For those who complete the University Program, extensions may last from 1 to 9 months.  Trainees apply for the Second Practical Training Program at least 2 months prior to the end of the First Practical Training Program.  A unique aspect of the Second Practical Training Program is that the trainee chooses the placement site for this part of his/her program, remembering that MAST International staff must approve the choice.

Selection Process

After MAST International reviews a trainee application, staff members attempt to find a placement site that matches the applicant’s interests.  The application is sent to the prospective host trainer for review.  When a host trainer agrees to work with an applicant, the MAST International Partner will be informed, and the visa process will begin.

Arrival in the United States

Once selected to be a MAST International trainee, visa and program materials are sent to the participant.  If the application was sent through a MAST International Partner, the documents will first be sent to the Partner and then forwarded to the participant.

Orientation

Upon arrival, a mandatory orientation is held at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul, Minnesota.  The orientation discusses training, program policies, safety, and cultural adjustment.  After officially enrolling and completing the orientation program, the training period begins.
