| New federal regulations regarding Exchange Visitor programs are expected to be released in fall of 2006. These new regulations are expected to include a mandatory requisite for an educational component. At present, the short course programs are optional for those trainees that are looking for additional educational opportunities. Prospective participants for the 2007 program may be REQUIRED to complete an educational component.
MAST International currently offers two organized Short Course programs: the MAST Summer Tour which originates in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and an Artificial Insemination School which takes place in Shawano, Wisconsin. Transportation to and from these two programs is the responsibility of the individual participant. Participants that are training outside the upper Midwest region can arrange an Individualized Study Program. Trainees are allowed time off without pay to complete the Short Course program.
MAST Summer Tour
The MAST Summer Tour focuses on non-production aspects of agriculture in a variety of settings. Through guided tours and presentations, the tour explores marketing, research and environmental issues. The tour is a two-day, one night event. Participants may need to arrange lodging for the night before and the night after the tour as the tour departs early in the morning and returns late in the afternoon.
Artificial Insemination School
Trainees that successfully complete the Artificial Insemination School will receive certification from the National Association of Animal Breeders. During the 4-day program, participants will master practical insemination techniques and discuss other relevant topics. The training is held at the corporate headquarters of GENEX/CRI in Shawano, Wisconsin. Participants need to arrive in Shawano the evening before the School begins.
Individualized Study Program
Upon approval from MAST International, participants can complete an Individualized Study Program in place of the University Program. An Individualized Study Program that meets the criteria established by MAST International will qualify the participant for an extended program. The Individualized Study Program must be completed BEFORE the end date on their initial DS-2019 in order to qualify for an extended program. |
