It is 35 years ago that I set foot in America to attend the MAST program in Balaton, Minnesota. I worked for Ron and Connie Schwartau on a mixed cropping/beef farm in Balaton. It was certainly a highlight for me being part of a program, to mix with different cultures, learning the American farming systems and socialize within Ron and Connie’s community. I’ll never forget the kind hospitality and nature of my American hosts and their extended family.
Being part of the 1991 MAST programme I have made some lifelong friends from all over the world. Our 1991 MAST year were fortunate to have a great year group, with over 100 students from over 18 countries. Since leaving America we have had nine reunions, in nine different countries. Each reunion has showcased their country, showing the MAST students and their families local businesses and attractions, along with a lot of socialising. It was an amazing experience to include our families, who now have contacts and have visited these friends all over the world. Our 10th reunion will coincide with the 75th anniversary of MAST in America, which will be wonderful way to celebrate and we are looking forward to it.
