I participated in the MAST Program in 2004 hosted by the amazing Becker family in Fairmont, MN (LB Pork Inc). Being part of the Becker family cared for business was to this day one of my most cherished experiences. With them, I did achieve my dream of learning English and moreover, felt, that I truly lived within the America culture!

I loved my work in the sow nursery and still miss Buddy Dee and all the other piglets I had the privilege to care for. Every time I remember our Sunday lunches with the Becker family, playing soccer and baseball of course, I still smile and feel the warmth in my heart!

During my semester attending classes at the University of Minnesota I had the opportunity to work at the laboratories in the Animal Science department. Professor Dr. Shurson invitation to join the department as a master’s student began a new chapter in my life. During my Master program, I met my now amazing husband, Carl Dahlen, who is my best friend and now partner for 20 years!

From Roberta Borges Amaral from Brazil to Roberta B. A. Dahlen from Brazil and USA, I am now, in addition to being a daughter, sister, niece, and cousin, a wife and mother of two incredible sons, Arthur and Lyle, the greatest gifts in my life! I have shared my MAST story with many people and I always do so proudly and with joy.

With a big smile, I say: I came to the U of MN MAST program for an 18-month experience; but that wheeled my life in a direction that I never saw coming and the rest is history! I have met so many amazing people through the MAST program and beyond. I am so blessed with family, career, and life! Thus, to the younger generation participating in the MAST: Embrace each day on the program and that will be sure stamped on YOUR history!
