After returning from 2+ years in the Peace Corps in Niger, West Africa, I started working at the University of MN Horticulture Research Center (HRC). This is where I first met and worked side-by-side with MAST trainees. The position was supposed to last for one season, but I ended up staying for 10+ years, in part because the job was so much more interesting while also learning about different countries and making friends from around the world. My connection to the program eventually led to what I envisioned as my "dream-job" as a Training Coordinator at MAST.
I have so many fun memories with MAST trainees: parties at the Arboretum and local greenhouses; hiking; camping; site-seeing; weddings; travel; etc. I've had the opportunity to visit MAST alumni in Australia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary, and the Netherlands, and have had others return to visit me. I've also really enjoyed getting to know so many MAST hosts and international partners- some of which have also become good friends. The MAST program is a true gem that bridges cultures and creates special bonds that last a life-time!
